Let's Get to Work
The work continues in 2023!
Let's Get to Work
While great progress has been made in 2021, there is still more work to be done. Commissioner Hogan and Elected Commissioner Dewey will get to work:
Lower Taxes. Look at every possible way to lower taxes for FFD taxpayers. Last year, we achieved a 20% tax decrease, and maintaining that will be challenging. In the near term, continued pressure on reserve funds will be a key goal. We need to look at alternatives for equipment. Do we really need shiny, new firetrucks when they depreciate the moment they drive off the lot? Why not consider used options?
Appropriate Taxation. The NYS audit confirmed what we already knew. The citizens of the Fishers Fire District have been overtaxed. In 2022, we need to apply unused funds to the tax bill, while developing a realistic budget. Commissioner Hogan and Commissioner Dewey will use their business skills to drive a budget based on real need, not just wishful thinking.
Consolidation. The Fishers Taxpayer Coalition has been advocating consolidation since early 2020. While the Commissioners have "talked" about their support for consolidation, they have refused to develop a plan to work with neighboring districts. Commissioner Hogan and Candidate Dewey are committed to writing the consolidation plan and meeting with every district to encourage consolidation.
Communication. Regularly communicate with us, the taxpayers. FFD Facts will continue its efforts to provide full transparency to the issues and continue to advocate for video solutions for citizens. A first step was including monies in the 2022 budget by Commissioner Hogan to make this happen. Both Commissioner Hogan [(585) 737-9484 / email debra.hogan@gmail.com] and Candidate Dewey [ (585) 615-5710 / email fdewey@mindspring.com]. are available for your comments and suggestions.
Hard at work for you, the Fishers Taxpayers!
